Thoughts on the Trail

Yesterday night on the Rock Lake trail. The first hike of the season for me. I was overwhelmed by the smells of the forest. So much more intense than during the fall, when I spend most of my time here. Every piece of forest has isolated places that have the wonderful northern forest smells of balsam fir, pine, cedar. But the Rock Lake trail is a continuous trail of forest perfume. And after all of that the amazing view of Blue Mountain over the lake. A perfect Adirondack hike on a perfect Adirondack evening.
