Bet I got your attention with that title, eh? Now I don't really believe that statement, but I do often ponder the existence (or non-existence) of a distinction between photography, as it's practiced today, and "art".
I get asked often about my photographic influences. It happens that I like a few photographers, but painting and the classical arts interest me a great deal more. Photography seems stuck in some sort of purist, documentation-only muck most of the time.
The most recent Red Dog News blast had a link to an interesting post from the Gone City blog. So there's at least one other person out there who wants to see photography move ahead. Enjoy!
