A few thoughts...

A few thoughts upon my reintroduction to my blog...

Albert Camus

"Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder."

Rumi

"The difference between Art and Life is that Art is more bearable."

Personal Appearance in Old Forge

I’ll be visiting Gallery 3040 in Old Forge, NY next Friday, August 29 as the featured artist, from 3-6 pm. I’ll be saying hi to old friends, welcoming new friends, and answering questions about my newest work, which is on display at the gallery.

Two other things of note will also be taking  place that afternoon: I’ll be unveiling a new (surprise) large triptych artwork AND we will be giving away a print of my image “Clouds”, seen above, to a lucky attendee. That’s right, I said giving away.

This will be a fun time! Come on out and say “Hey!”.

A New Old Thing

First Light
First Light

I haven’t been in my darkroom since… Pause…

OK, I really don’t even know when. More than thirty years. Wow! Even I’m not sure that could be.

I spent hundreds of hours in there. Portraits, concerts, softball games (my favorite!). Everything but landscape, which is what I do. Go figure.

It’s been nagging at me. I love black & white. So I’m starting work on a black & white portfolio.

I want to find out if I’ve learned anything over the last thirty years…

My Book Is Born!

jr_cover_750

It's finally here! After several years of work, lots of edits, re-writes, give-ups and start-overs. My new book, The Adirondack Heart, is a reality. I'll have more to say later, for now I just want to let it sink in...

Exhibit Reception at UH

Part of "Natural Resonance" - photo by Lori Diemer

University Hospitals and Geauga Council for Arts & Culture will be hosting a reception for my exhibit, Natural Resonance, on Sunday, December 1 from 2-4 pm in the medical center lobby. Cookies and refreshments will be provided.

As part of the festivities, I will be extending a 20% discount on any piece hanging in the show. I will also have on-hand a small number of unframed, unmounted, never before shown pieces for sale at greatly reduced prices. Frame them yourself and save big! Both of these offers are good only at the reception, so don't miss out!

I am very pleased with this exhibit and would love it if you can come out and enjoy it, too!

Directions to the medical center can be found here.

Back in Time

TreetopsTreetopsTreetops
I haven’t done any serious black & white since just after high school (Don’t ask!). I decided to explore simplicity as my retreat project a few weeks ago. In exploring the minimalist approach I think I learned a great deal.
I’m always looking at the sky above the treetops. But I’m not sure it ever occurred to me to make a photo project out of that habit. I began at Raquette Lake, which has visible shoreline all over the place.

Focusing on the Positive

Trees near Cary Lake

This not being the best of weeks, I decided to focus only on the positive and let the rest take care of itself. My reward was lots of time in the field, where I finally got the procedure down for a new technique (totally in-camera) that I am all jazzed-up about. It is time-consuming and difficult to execute, but I think the results are fantastic!
